The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Town of Ulster Police and several other police agencies from nearby counties, arrested the three Connecticut men on Sunday, June 4, for the burglaries that took place over a three-week time period, said Capt. John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.

During the early morning hours of June 4, Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a burglar alarm at a business in the Village of Rhinebeck, while at the same time, the Town of Ulster Police in Ulster County were responding to a different burglar alarm, Watterson said.

Watterson said both alarms were the result of confirmed break-ins, and as the deputies began their investigation the Town of Ulster Police located two possible suspects.

Both of those subjects were taken into custody by Ulster Police, however, a third suspect then fled in a vehicle back into Dutchess County.

The suspect was located and taken into custody by the New York State Police, and he along with the two others were turned over to the Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau for further investigation, Watterson said.

An investigation led to the charging of the three men believed to be responsible for the commercial burglaries as well as several others in Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, and Sullivan counties.

The three arrested included:

  • Hartford County resident Rickie Miranda Jr., age 22,  of Bristol, Connecticut was charged with three counts of burglary and was turned over to the Tuxedo Police Department in Orange County for an investigation into another burglary.
  • Hartford County resident Jacob A. Miranda, age 20, also of Bristol, Connecticut, was charged with three count of burglary and also turned over to the Tuxedo Police Department.
  • Hartford County resident Thomas C. Durant, age 19, of Burlington, Connecticut, was charged with possession of burglar’s tools, conspiracy, criminal facilitation, and criminal possession of stolen property. After being processed he was released on appearance tickets.

The investigation is continuing and more charges are possible at a later time.
